Two drunk drivers get suspended jail terms

Pongsatorn Techatadadej, 38, pleaded guilty.

The accident took place on an expressway late Thursday night.

All three policemen in the car, including Metropolitan Police Division 1 commander MajGeneral Wichai Sangprapai, received mAdmitted to Bangkok Hospital, Wichai yesterday said he still had minor pain in his chest and neck.

Pongsatorn's bloodalcohol level stood at 179 milligrams
per cent at the time of the accident.

He was convicted of drunk driving and reckless driving causing damage and injury to other persons.

Due to his confession, Pongsatorn's fourmonth jail term was halved and suspended. He was ordered to pay a Bt5,000 fine, remain on probation for one year, and do 24 hours of community service.

His driving licence has been suspended for six months.

In another case, the court handed down a similar punishment to singer Anan Anwar for drunk driving.

His twomonth jail term was suspended for two years, his driving licence suspended for six months and he too had to pay a Bt5,000 fine.

"I respect the court's ruling. I rarely drive myself and I will be more careful about drinking when I have to steer the vehicle myself next time," Anan said.

The 23yearold singer was found drunk in his car after celebrating with a friend who had just returned from overseas.
