Even though Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva seemed to have conflict with the police chief, most people wanted him to continue working to settle the country’s pressing problems, according to a Abac Poll released on Saturday.
A recent opinion poll on conflict between political camp and police chief Pol Gen Phatcharawat Wongsuwan by Assumption University found that 73 per cent of the respondents gave moral support to Mr Abhisit to continue performing duties.
As many as 77.4 per cent of the respondents saw that politicians are beneficiaries of the police reshuffle, 76.4 per cent said the beneficiaries are high ranking police officers.
Nearly 70 per cent of them were concerned that Mr Abhisit might make wrong a decision in this case because of his aides.
The respondent wanted the premier to create a system of good governance in the national police bureau. An independent committee should be set up to reform police structure.
The respondents gave the police chief 7.23 scores out of 10 for the his patience on pressure from the political sides.
They also gave 7.09 score for Pol Gen Phatcharawat’s efforts to reduce social conflict.
